CDC and India Collaborate for Public Health Progress

Over 50 Years of Partnership

For more than half a century, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has maintained a strong partnership with the Government of India and Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. This collaboration has played a vital role in addressing India's public health priorities, leading to significant advancements in disease prevention and control.

Collaborative Efforts

The CDC works closely with subject matter experts from its headquarters and country offices to align its programs, priorities, and scientific expertise with India's healthcare needs. By coordinating with partners, the CDC supports global health security initiatives across multiple countries in the region.

Surveillance and Eradication

Since 1993, the CDC has assigned experts to World Health Organization (WHO) regional and country offices in India. These experts provide technical assistance in surveillance of vaccine-preventable diseases. The CDC's support has been instrumental in developing and implementing polio eradication strategies, maternal and neonatal tetanus elimination strategies, and strengthening the national immunization program. These efforts have accelerated disease prevention and improved the health outcomes of millions of Indians.
