Stop The Boats Campaign

Sunak Vows to 'Stop the Boats' in Major Speech

Five Key Pledges to Address Illegal Immigration

Home Office Launches Social Media Campaign Targeting Vietnamese Nationals

In his first major speech of 2023, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak outlined a comprehensive strategy to address illegal immigration and "stop the boats." The speech was delivered in Dover, Kent, a key landing point for migrants arriving in the UK by sea.

Sunak pledged to:

  • Increase the number of Border Force officers by 20%.
  • Deploy advanced technology, such as drones and surveillance cameras, to monitor the English Channel.
  • Establish new offshore processing centers to process asylum claims.
  • Negotiate agreements with other countries to return failed asylum seekers.
  • Crack down on people smugglers and organized crime groups involved in illegal immigration.

The speech follows the launch of a social media campaign by the Home Office targeting Vietnamese nationals. The campaign aims to deter people from making dangerous journeys to the UK and highlights the risks involved in illegal immigration.

Home Secretary Suella Braverman said: "This campaign is part of our ongoing efforts to stop the boats and protect our borders. We are determined to break the business model of people smugglers and prevent vulnerable people from risking their lives in the Channel."

Critics of Sunak's "Stop the Boats" strategy argue that it is cruel and inhumane and will not effectively address the root causes of illegal immigration. They call for a more compassionate approach that focuses on providing safe and legal pathways for asylum seekers.
