Powerful Quake Shakes Eastern US

4.8-Magnitude Earthquake Felt from New York to New England

No Immediate Reports of Major Damage

A moderate earthquake with a magnitude of 4.8 struck the northeastern United States on Friday morning, sending tremors from Philadelphia to New York City. The epicenter of the quake was located near Lebanon, New Jersey, about 40 miles west of New York City.

The quake struck at 10:23 am Eastern Time and was felt by millions of people across the region. According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the quake was the largest to hit the New York City area since 2011.

There were no immediate reports of major damage or injuries. However, the quake caused disruptions to transportation and communications in some areas. Amtrak temporarily suspended rail service between New York City and Philadelphia and some flights at Newark Liberty International Airport were delayed.

Scientists are still studying the data to determine what caused the earthquake. However, they believe that it was likely caused by the movement of faults in the Earth's crust.

The quake is a reminder that even densely populated areas are not immune to earthquakes. Experts recommend that people be prepared for earthquakes by having an emergency plan and supplies in place.
